Honey Chipotle Barbeque Sauce

If I haven’t made it apparent on this site already, I LOVE BARBEQUE! And I love spicy food.

For my birthday, my husband asked what I wanted as a present. I said I would love if he would make pulled pork for me. He then of course said he needed a smoker so he could do this appropriately. Thus my husband got a smoker for my birthday! Not sure how that works out, but he is such a nice guy I just can’t say no to him. How could you say no to this face?

To go with the pulled pork, we made two different kinds of barbeque sauce. This one is a recipe I found online, and it has the great honor of making more room in my suitcase when we fly from the US back to Germany as I no longer need to buy Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey Chipotle Barbeque Sauce for both myself and some of our friends. And to make it even better, this recipe is about the easiest thing you would ever find on this website! Here in Germany it does require a purchase from Amazon.de (the Chipotle Chili in Adobo) but it is a small price to pay for a superior sauce as far as I am concerned.

Here is what we need for this ridiculously easy barbeque sauce :

This (my own birthday present!) is a handy tool here, though a blender would also work.

Stick all the ingredients in the blender or food processor

And then blend it on the highest speed for 1-2 minutes, until everything is mixed and cut really fine. I have also separately cut up the chipotle chilies to ensure they are very finely cut as they are the only part that is in pieces when it goes in.

I then use my kitchen funnel to get it in a fancy bottle…

And Voila!

This sauce pairs perfectly with pulled pork (or if you are talking to my niece Lucinda it is “chicken” not pork. Because we don’t eat piggies!) A recipe for this (the pulled pork, not the marriage as that is a work in process!) will follow at some point from Alex.

This sauce was so great we included it in our set up including the BBQ sauce last weekend when we had Alex’s colleagues and their families over. I usually put BBQ sauces in hot water baths so they are easily pourable. I have these flower pots from IKEA which work perfectly. I had to bring out a can of chipotle chili in adobo due to all the discussion of this sauce!

The recipe for the bread will follow soon…though it takes some time I almost never buy hamburger buns anymore as these are so much better!

In the meantime, make this sauce. It will make your taste buds happy!

Honey Chipotle BBQ Sauce

Ingredients :
1 Cup Ketchup (I used light but let’s be real…this sauce is by no means “light”!)
1/2 Cup Honey
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
3 Tablespoons (or to taste) Chipotle Chili in Adobo Sauce
4 Teaspoons Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
2 Teaspoons Garlic Powder or Granulate
1 Teaspoon Salt
1/4 Teaspoon Ground Pepper

Instructions :
Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor. Blend 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce is well blended and the chipotles are no longer in pieces. Best served heated slightly (directly from the fridge it is pretty thick). Enjoy!
